Technical Creativity was the name of a company I started in the Netherlands in the year 2000. I had a vision to be self employed and provide engineering services from design through project management as well as graphic design services. My name is Edwin van Doorn and I'm a renaissance man.
I was born an engineer. My whole life I have created things, built models and gotten excited about gadgets of all sorts. I have never been able to suppress my need to invent things and learn. After a short time in the Royal Netherlands Naval Academy I spent a year becoming a COBOL programmer. Not so much for the language but more to learn how to build proper program structures. After that year I started my colege education to become a Mechanical Engineer with a specialization in Mechatronics. After graduation I spent about 6.5 years working as a mechanical engineer developing equipment for the production of Compact Discs, contact lenses, opthalmic lenses and a DVD production system before becoming self employed.
Shortly after I started my company, one of my first customers made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I packed up my belongings and relocated from the Netherlands to San Diego, California. There I became the project manager at Crescent Design, Inc. where I had an opportunity to work on all the technical development projects while learning more about international business setting and the American business climate in particular. While it was quite a change, my Dutch explorer's blood allowed me to adapt quickly. After a couple of years, I decided it was time to expand my knowledge of the business aspects of my job so I entered the MBA program at California State University of San Marcos. After graduation, I became the Operations Manager overseeing the engineering activities and production activities while working with the rest of the management team on business development and the implementation of a quality system.
Meanwhile, I have always had an itch to draw pictures of everything and anything. As a kid I scaled up Donald Duck from 2" tall to 4' tall.
